Innovative Educators Grant

The Innovative Educators Grant Program provides resources to teachers in Detroit’s College and Career Pathways high schools to incorporate innovative supplementary activities and learning projects specific to their career strands. It is intended to benefit students, schools, and the dynamic career sectors in Southeastern Michigan aligned with these schools. It also aims to raise the stature, increase networks, and provide resources for dynamic educators to spearhead new learning techniques.

The program is designed to reduce the barriers teachers face in offering innovative opportunities aligned with curriculum standards. Activities are expected to link to real-world and/or hands-on experiences, encourage continuous learning by students and teachers, and link cross pathway learning and collaboration between similar disciplines.

We believe that innovative teachers in Detroit deserve to be recognized and supported to put more of their good ideas into action. This program assists teachers to act creatively beyond the textbooks and curricular materials they now have, by providing grants of $500 – $7,500 to cover the costs of innovative learning projects aligned with their curriculums. These projects will strengthen students’ readiness to enter college and/or career.

The Innovative Educators Grant Program is a partnership between Community Connections Grant Program and the United Way for Southeastern Michigan.

Grantee Stories

What About Us?

On the corner of Belvidere Street on the east side of Detroit stands a homemade sign in blues and reds that reads: ‘Where Families Matter.’ The sign marks a two-story house that is community hub to Community Connections Grantee, What About Us?
